Out and Inside by Karo

Artist Statement:

In these paintings I wanted to show my experiences as a fat non-binary person. The first piece talks about the relationship that the world has with my body, specifically the fetishization and dehumanization of both fat and trans bodies. The second piece is about my own relationship with my body, my journey to self acceptance, intimacy and closeness with myself but also my experiences with body dysmorphia and derealization. I've always felt that my body wasn't mine, that the society took it away from me and now I'm trying to take it back. I want to take away all the unwanted comments and advice, all the medicalization I've experienced since I was a child, and just have my body back, for me. And to give myself the affection that I always deserved.
