Apples and Pears by Daisy podmore

Artist Statement:

My work focuses on celebrating fat joy and the power of self-expression. I believe that the space to be yourself and feel beautiful is empowering, although as a plus-size person, I often feel like we have our identities defined for us in fashion and media. In my studio practice, creating an encouraging a comfortable environment is really important to me, as it contrasts the common negative experiences for plus-size people in fashion. I work in partnership with the subjects of my images, providing a safe space to explore and experiment with clothing and make-up, using a combination of the model's own clothes and selected pieces. Through collaborative working, I aim to allow the model to explore how they wish to be represented by the lens.

Daisy is a fashion communications graduate, currently studying MA in fashion marketing at NTU. She loves photography and fat people, and enjoys using the lens to explore how identity and fashion collide.
