Askew by Corinne Olivier

IMG-6507.JPG

My name is Corinne Olivier and I am a model, musician and artist from Raleigh, North Carolina. My inspiration for this entire shoot was my Tia Adeola mask that I had gotten two weeks prior. For those who may not know, Tia Adeola is a New York based designer whose work is mainly inspired by the Renaissance. I really liked how otherworldly the mask looked, so I decided to keep going with that idea with inspirations from FKA Twigs, and Solange Knowles “When I Get Home” directors cut. For the location, it was shot in front of Artist Roxy Paine’s “Askew” sculpture at the North Carolina Museum of Art.

I picked this sculpture because it goes along with that ethereal, almost alien-like aesthetic that I had been wanting to work with, and I really liked how much my red outfit contrasted against this giant silver tree and its grassy background. Music plays a big part in the creative process, to where I already have a whole look and location for my next shoot planned out from just one song sometimes. For my next project for example, I have been listening to a lot of Aphex Twin and Yves Tumor and for some reason it has inspired me to create my next shoot involving pearls and wet hair (so we’ll see where that goes).
